Multiple strings of promises hang inside the storefront windows, representing the false promises a pimp would say to his victim.

A table displaying information in the center of the exhibition doubles as a traveling exhibit, allowing for education on sex trafficking to reach a larger audience.

The pamphlet is a condensed version of the table, allowing the visitors to take part of the experience home with them. It provides resources specific to the Seattle area dealing with sex trafficking, relationships and domestic violence, homeless youth and immigrants and refugees.

I PROMISE

I PROMISE is a temporary exhibition space designed to educate the public on sex trafficking. It is located in Seattle, WA, which is ranked third in the nation for sex trafficking. Visitors are lured into the space just like young women are coaxed into this trade, by false promises a pimp will say to his victims. Once inside, visitors experience testimonies from six local women by listening on a telephone as well as reading shorter excerpts on the wall. The walls are full length mirrors designed to put the viewer in the shoes of the young women.

Exhibition designed, built and photographed in collaboration with Anna Billmaier and Claire Simon.
